BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Diana Bowen is a lawyer who has held multiple positions in support of governance, national parliamentary assistance programs, and civil society programs in Afghanistan over the past several years. Diana previously served as Chief of Party for the International Development Law Organization in Afghanistan. Diana has been a long-time supporter of the children at Window of Hope, visiting them regularly during her time in Afghanistan.

Karen Dahlgren works in Leicestershire for a local council supporting people with mental health issues leaving hospital. From 2007 to 2012, she worked for Children in Crisis in Kabul as a Social Work Advisor and volunteered at Window of Hope.

Jennifer Glasse has been with Al Jazeera English since 2011, previously as a correspondent in Kabul, Afghanistan. She has reported across continents for multiple news organizations since 1993. In 1997, she won an Overseas Press Club award for her work in Zaire and in 2003 she received a Gracie Allen award.

Jane Horton

Lael Mohib co-founded ECI in 2013 and played a key strategic role in the organization’s growth over the past decade. Serving as Country Director and later Executive Director, she oversaw the implementation of five new programs, onboarded over 50 Afghan employees, and raised over $1.5 million dollars for the organization over the past four years. She is a communications and development professional.

Laila Nazarali is currently serving as a Human Rights Officer for the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva. From 2009 to 2013, she worked in Afghanistan. Laila volunteered at Window of Hope private care home in Kabul from 2010 to 2014.

Ilaha Eli Omar is an Afghan-American grassroots mobilizer and humanitarian aid expert with over two decades of experience facilitating aid delivery to minority communities in developing countries, including orphans, the ultra-poor, and people with disabilities.

Siavash Rahbari (Chairman)
Siavash Rahbari is the country manager for IDLO Philippines and was previously the program lead for Afghanistan at IDLO Headquarters in Rome. Before that, he worked on legal aid and legal education with The Asia Foundation and provided technical and management support at Open Society Afghanistan. He began his career as an intern with the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. Mr. Rahbari holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas, School of Law. He has volunteered at Window of Hope care home since 2010.

Bethan Silcox
Bethan Silcox currently works with Womankind. Bethan previously managed Children in Crisis' (now StreetChild) Afghanistan program. Bethan has volunteered with ECI since its inception.

Hossai Wardak
Hossai is an independent consultant and formerly served at Chief of Staff to the First Lady of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan from 2014-2016. She served as Deputy Director of Equality for Peace and Democracy (EPD), a civil society organization in Afghanistan that she co-founded in 2019.

Sari Bernardo
Executive Director

Sari Bernardo comes with a diverse background with program management and organizational development experience. She has extensive experience of managing teams and operations in conflict zones, including four years in Afghanistan and nearly a decade in the Middle East region. Since 2017 she has been working remotely, focusing on supporting local leadership and partners globally. She holds a Master's Degree MA Global Development and Humanitarian Practice (GDHP) .
